Morgan Smith

Morgan is a second year Bacteriology Master’s student. She is on the research track and works in the lab of Dr. Jan Peter van Pijkeren. Her work focuses on tool development within the probiotic Limosilactobacillus reuteri, ultimately aiming to advance next-gen probiotics. To this end, Morgan works to find native promoters regulated by dietary sugars, and then uses these promoters to drive the inducible expression of genetic engineering tools, such as CRE recombinase. When not in the lab, Morgan enjoys hiking, drawing, baking, and playing D&D with friends.
